Southern Forest Products Association - Southern Yellow Pine

Product Summary

Southern Pine design values are among the highest for all softwoods. Grademarked Southern Pine dimension lumber (2" and less in thickness) is dried to a maximum moisture content of 19% to minimize the shrinkage associated with "green lumber." The drying enhances nail holding and reduces the tendency for "nail pop" associated with drywall construction. Southern Pine is also one of the easiest softwoods to pressure-treat with preservatives.
